Environmental Influences on Cognitive Development in Middle Childhood
[ send me this paper ]
This is a 3 page paper discussing environmental (nurture) influences on cognitive development in middle childhood. Middle childhood, which extends from 6 to 13 years of age, is a highly transitional and productive learning period in regards to cognitive development. Children are cognitively leaving the preoperational stage which is primarily based on the relationships between symbols, language and the environment and enter the concrete operational stage which is concentrated on the concrete and abstract abilities of the child. During middle childhood, research has found that children need an interactive and supportive environment both at school and at home which provides cooperative learning yet allows the child to ask as many questions as needed in order to “mentally manipulate” information. Erik Erikson / Implications For Infant And Toddler Care-Givers
[ send me this paper ]
This 10 page paper discusses Erikson's theories regarding psycho-social development and play. Like many personality theorists, Erikson believed that the child must progress through these stages in order to develop a healthy personality. Failure to resolve the inherent conflicts in any stage leads to emotional and personality problems at a later time. Play, being the infant and toddler's primary activity is also critical to the development of the individual's personality. Different kinds of play are explained. Finally, the implications of these theories for care-givers (or parents) are discussed. Bibliography lists 5 sources.

Ethical Issues In The Psychological Treatment Of Children
[ send me this paper ]
10 pages in length. The ethical ramifications involved with adult counseling situations are considerable enough on their own, however, when children are brought into the mix – in either the school or professional setting - the stakes increase significantly. While there are ethical issues that pertain primarily to adult counseling patients, there are those that are relevant to children's protection as well, such as reporting abuse, confidentiality and cultural diversity. Bibliography lists 10 sources.

Explaining Death And Dying To Preschool Children
[ send me this paper ]
An 8 page paper. How to explain death to a preschool-age child is an issue of some controversy in the world, however, experts seem to agree that we should not try to shield our young children from the fact of death. Experts also seem to agree that we should not use euphemisms when discussing death and dying because they confuse the child and will often lead to misconceptions, which, in turn, lead to fears. This essay discusses how this age child perceives death and includes suggestions on discussing this topic with young children. Bibliography lists 5 sources.

Factors Influencing Juvenile Delinquency
[ send me this paper ]
A 6 page discussion of the myriad of factors which influence juvenile delinquency. Specifically addresses family structure and factors such as maternal separation and parental rejection, noting that while such factors have been demonstrated to be important determinants his correlation is far from perfect. While one might jump to the conclusion that juvenile delinquency might be directly accounted for by the irresponsible actions of a parent or specific family structure, there has been one incident after another when parents took every possible means of insuring societally appropriate behavior in their children and juvenile delinquency still occurs. Bibliography lists 11 sources.
